About Us

WHO WE ARE
Providence Church is life mapped out
The word providence is defined in Webster's as “the protective care of God.” In one thesaurus it gives context to the word by saying “a life mapped out by providence” following a long list of words that might help you associate the idea with other like minded vocabulary words or phrases such as destiny, fate, God's will, divine intervention, predestination, predetermination, the star's, one's lot, etc, etc, etc.
Providence is a word that describes an idea, something greater than us is in control. We believe that's true. And we believe that something is actually a someone and His name is Jesus. He has a life mapped out for us. One that's full of life and peace, a life that can bring life to others. The bible describes Jesus as the visible image of an invisible God. Jesus is the one who has revealed to us what life should look like and be like. But we can only have a life like his if we trust in Him completely.
And so we're trusting him that as he changes our lives, he'll use us to change the lives of others. The homeless, the brokenhearted, the lonely, and the outcast. We're hoping that as he teaches us what it means to love him and one another then our neighborhoods, our cities, and ultimately our world will be transformed.
We are an eclectic crowd. Young and old, black and white. Some are new followers of Jesus and others are seasoned vets. Each one of us in this community of believers is learning to live the way Christ calls us to live. Then, as our lives change for the good we can become that roadmap to life for others.
As Jesus was to us, so we are to be in the world. That's Providence. His hand, moving us towards people, who need life.
1 John 4.17 “As He is, so are we in the world.”
OUR MISSION...HIS MISSION
Providence Church exists to liberate, equip and empower people to participate in God's restoring mission for all creation.
OUR CORE VALUES
1. Transformed in the Presence of God (John 15:1-17, Romans 12:1-2, 2 Corinthians 3:18, Colossians 15:1-20)
The Presence of God transforms and is restoring all of creation. His Presence is an experienced reality in our lives through the Holy Spirit and God’s Word and is what transforms us into the image of Christ.
2.Building Healthy Relationships (1 Samuel 16:7, John 13:34-35, Acts 2:42-47)
As we learn to love Christ and others well, we seek to build the kind of authentic biblical community that draws others closer to God. Therefore, we take responsibility for each other's spiritual, emotional, and physical health.
3. Unity through Partnership (Matthew 18:19-20, John 17:20-23, Ephesians 4:1-6)
Giving every man, woman, and child within our influence multiple opportunities to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ through partnerships with like-minded churches, ministries, and organizations, locally and around the world.
4. Equipping and Empowering Others to Go (Matthew 28: 18-20, Acts 1:8, Ephesians 4:11-13)
God is restoring a broken world. His method to accomplish this mission is people, His Church. We are preparing and empowering God’s people to take His presence into the places God has put them to reach the next generation, the poor and lost of our community and our world, for the glory of God.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Scripture
We believe that the 66 books of the Bible are the authoritative word of God. The Bible is God’s revelation to us about who He is, what He is like, and what He has done, is doing, and will do throughout history. It is the infallible and inerrant word of God that directs all we do and is central to understanding life. It is the final authority in all we do and for the life of our church and the practices we incorporate. It is inspired by the Holy Spirit, written by man, and proves true in all that it affirms in practice and in history.
The Trinity
Trinity is the word we use that best describes the personhood and roles of God in man’s life throughout history, from the very beginning. We believe that God is three persons in one: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These three persons have always existed in perfect relationship with one another and always will. They are each Co-Equal and Co-Eternal in their divinity, yet they are each separate in person. They are submissive in role only and each to be worshipped as God. The Spirit reveals to us the Son, the Son glorifies the Father, and it is the Father Whose will it is for us to know Him and His Son and Who desires the Spirit to dwell in us and among us.
God the Father
He is the sovereign Creator of all things. It is by His will and design that all things exist and are held together. He created everything out of nothing. Everything is made for His glory and for His glory alone. It was by His grace and His own desire that He sent the Son to make payment for our sins, providing the way into a restored relationship with Him. It has always been His desire that we might know Him and live in relationship with Him. He created man to live in this relationship with Him. He is Love. By Him we define what Love is.
Jesus Christ
His name means Saviour. He is the firstborn over all creation. By Him and through Him all things were created and are sustained by His word. He is the physical revelation of God to us, the visible image of an invisible God. He came supernaturally conceived by the spirit, born of a virgin, fully God and fully man. He lived before creation with the Father and lives now in physical form, reigning at the right hand of the Father over all kingdoms, rulers and authorities. His name is above all names and is to be loved, worshipped, and adored.
It is by the Father’s will and Jesus’ willful obedience that He was sent to be the atonement, the payment for man’s sin, and has fully satisfied the wrath of God against us. He proved to us His victory over sin and death by His many signs and wonders, His physical death by crucifixion, His physical burial in a tomb for three days, and His physical resurrection from the dead. Jesus is the only mediator between God and man and will return one day as Lord to fully establish His kingdom and to usher in a New Heaven and a New Earth where believers will reign and live with Him for all eternity.
The Holy Spirit
Fully God, He is to be worshipped and adored as God. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin and reveals to us the Person and work of the Son, Jesus Christ. He is a person and, therefore, has volition, emotion, and intellect and can be grieved and lied to. He also guides, leads, directs, and teaches the believer in all things. He knows all things, and there is nothing hidden from His sight. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that a believer is even able to live the life of Jesus. He is the seal and the guarantee of our salvation and sonship of God. We believe that the Holy Spirit fills us fully, yet His influence in our lives can be hindered by sin. He never leaves us as a result of sin, but He desires us to yield ourselves to His power and His influence.
